The AP Royal Oak remains one of the most significant models in the history of the wristwatch, with the iconic Gerald Genta design being one of the most recognisable to this day. Within the RO, the ‘jumbo’ references have always been the most desirable, paying tribute to the original 5402 from 1972. Building on the success of the 15202 reference, the 16202ST was launched in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Royal Oak.
This new release was visually similar to what came before; however it enjoys an updated calibre 7121 movement and is fitted with a rhodium-toned gold oscillating weight signifying the 50th anniversary of the RO. Although the 16202 remained in production, it is only these 50th anniversary pieces that were produced in 2022 that received this key detail and as such are extremely rare and will only serve to become more desirable.
This 16202ST 50th Anniversary was indeed supplied new in 2022 and has remained boxed and unworn since it was purchased by its only custodian; only removed for the purposes of these images. The 39mm Royal Oak in steel will always be the most iconic model from AP, with the 50th anniversary examples being a necessity for any discerning collector.
